Hub Census 2025 – Key findings

The Hub Census 2025 highlights the significant role community hubs play in building belonging, strengthening early learning, and supporting pathways to participation and employment.

Community Hubs

Working in partnership with schools and local partner organisations, our national network of 100 hubs supports families, particularly mothers with young children, to build confidence, strengthen social connections and access the support they need. Through this place-based approach, hubs help reduce isolation and create a strong sense of belonging, contributing to greater social cohesion within school communities and beyond.

What happens at a hub
Activities at hubs are designed to respond to the needs and interests of local families. They focus on engagement, early childhood, English language learning, and opportunities to connect with community health, family support and settlement services. Through these activities, families are supported to navigate systems, build everyday skills and develop relationships that help them feel more confident and connected in their communities.

Hubs also create pathways for women to take their next step. Through volunteering, training and support to explore education or employment, women build independence and create new opportunities for themselves and their children.

The hub model
Community hubs are based in primary schools because they are trusted, familiar places families already visit. Many people first come for their children (through playgroups or transition to school programs) and, through those relationships go on to build English skills, connect with services and explore pathways into volunteering, training or work.

Each hub reflects its local community, while following a consistent approach that puts connection first, then learning, support and next steps.
