Engagement sits at the heart of every community hub. It focuses on creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where families feel a sense of belonging and are supported to connect with one another.

Engagement

Through engagement activities including coffee and chats, craft, and gardening, hubs help families build relationships with each other, their host school and local support services. For many families, the hub is an important first point of connection – providing trusted pathways into services, information and support that might otherwise be difficult to access.

By strengthening relationships and reducing isolation, engagement supports families to participate more confidently in school and community life.

Story of impact
At Dandenong Primary School in Victoria, the hub partnered with Brainwave Bikes to run a Learn to Ride program for women in the school community. For many participants, it was their first time learning to ride a bike.

With encouragement from the hub leader and each other, participants practised week by week, building not only practical skills but confidence and independence. Some now cycle with their children, while others use their bikes to move more freely around their neighbourhood – strengthening their connection to school and community life.

Our goal is to help families feel welcome, connected and supported to engage with their community.

The key to a community hub's success is the teamwork between coordinators, hub leaders, and school leadership.
